Dimitri Philemonof Dimitri Philemonof is an Aleut born and raised on St. George Island, Alaska, in the Bering Sea. He is a widower, with 4 children, and currently resides in Anchorage, AK. He is honored to dedicate his career to improving the health, social and community services available for the Aleut people, and all Alaska Natives. Dimitri began working for the Aleutian/Pribilof Islands Association, Inc. in 1978 under the Community Services Department, then in 1985 was promoted to serve as the President/CEO of the Association, and still holds this position. As the Association’s President/CEO, Dimitri manages a $17 Million budget and 90 programs funded through federal, state and private grants to advance the economic, social and cultural development of the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Region; and travels extensively learning about the legislative process and educating grantors about the needs of the Aleut People of the Region. Other ways Dimitri has shown his dedication to the Alaska Native people is by serving: as an instrument to bring reparations to the Aleut people after their internment by the U.S. Government during World War II; and influenced the establishment of the Russian Orthodox Church Restitution Trust Fund. Dimitri has been a Board Representative on the St. George Village Corporation (TANAQ) Services, Aleutian Housing Authority, Alaska Federation of Natives, The Aleut Corporation, Gold Cache Bingo, Lucky Strike Bingo, the Aleut League and St. Herman’s Seminary Board; and previously, as the St. Innocent Orthodox Brotherhood President. One of Dimitri’s hobbies is his Alaska Native culture paintings and black-pen drawings, which help preserve Alaska Native culture through illustration. Dimitri has also published 2 Aleut Art Books and Co-Produced “Aleut Evacuation: The Untold Story” video.
