SUMMARY:2022 Tribal Energy Webinar Series: Energy Infrastructure and Climate Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy\, the 2022 Tribal Energy Webinar Series will focus on how tribes can position themselves to participate in the energy transition to the benefit of their communities and future generations. The changing climate brings new and more extreme weather-related events and increased risks to energy infrastructure. The frequency and severity of extreme weather events\, including wildfires\, flooding\, sea level rise\, landslides\, high winds\, and temperature extremes\, are increasing. Thoughtful and deliberate energy infrastructure changes can help reduce the severity of these climate change impacts and improve the resilience of tribal energy systems and infrastructure in the face of these growing threats. This webinar will discuss opportunities for tribes to proactively change their energy infrastructure to reduce climate-related risks and impacts. \n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:DOT: Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Department of Transportation (Department) is preparing to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) regarding the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program established by the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. \n The SS4A program will provide $5-6 billion in grant funding over the next 5 years. The funding will support Tribal\, regional\, and local initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. \n To carry out the principles in E.O. 13175\, “Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments”\, and to afford our Tribal partners an opportunity to provide meaningful input regarding the development and implementation of the eligibility criteria for the SS4A discretionary program as allowed by the authorizing statute\, and to inform how Tribes may apply for the SS4A program funds\, the Department will be hosting a Tribal Consultation on Friday\, May 6\, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST. \n We anticipate the NOFO will be published in May of 2022. Prior to the publication of the NOFO\, however\, we look forward to hearing your comments and insight regarding how the program eligibility criteria may be structured to best achieve the goals and objectives of this new discretionary safety program. \n You can access the Tribal Consultation zoom link by clicking HERE. \nIf prompted\, the passcode is 195991 and the meeting ID is 161 981 5458. \n Please know we welcome and value your input\, including recommendations for actions the Department should continue to take to work with Indian Tribes on a government-to-government basis and any new steps that can be taken in order to better facilitate the nation-to nation relationship. If you have any questions\, please feel free to contact Milo Booth\, Director of Tribal Affairs at (202) 309-9786 or milo.booth@dot.gov or tribalaffairs@dot.gov.
