Anchorage, AK: The Alaska Federation of Natives announced today the release of its 2016 Voting Guide. The guide includes a comprehensive questionnaire for the U.S. Senate candidates and House candidates. The voter guide will be printed and distributed to AFN delegates attending next week’s AFN Convention in Fairbanks and available on the AFN website for download.
The questionnaire focuses on Native and rural issues, from economic development to food security.
AFN will conduct a candidate forum during the Convention, on Friday, October 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Candidates for U.S. Senate: Senator Lisa Murkowski, Margaret Stock, Joe Miller, and Ray Metcalf; and U.S. House.: Congressman Don Young, and Steve Lindbeck, have confirmed. The proceedings will be broadcast live on statewide television (GCI Cable, ARCS, and 360 North) and livestreamed at www.nativefederation.org.
“The AFN Media & Election Committee and AFN staff are committed to ensuring our delegates and membership are informed for this election. We are grateful for their work on querying the candidates and publishing this voting guide,” Kitka added. “On behalf of the AFN Board and membership, I urge all Alaskans to get out and vote on November 8.”
