The Alaska Federation of Natives Announces Upcoming Transition

We are writing today to announce that after many years of service with the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN), Julie Kitka, at her request, will be transitioning out of the President role in 2024.

Julie Kitka has been a true champion for Alaska Native people through her steadfast commitment to AFN.  Her gifts of intellect, curiosity, kindness, inclusion and creativity have established her as a statewide leader and a national resource.  AFN’s Board of Directors have been honored to work with her and greatly admire her leadership.

Our Board of Directors has developed a Succession and Search Committee and will be casting a wide net to seek diverse candidates with strong commitments to serving the Alaska Native community.  The Board is hopeful to open up applications to interested candidates in March, with the new President in place to help lead the 2024 AFN convention.

Your feedback will be important throughout the process, and that is why we have developed a confidential online survey for you to share your perspectives on AFN’s future and next President. This survey should only take 10 minutes and can be completed by clicking here or the button below. The survey will close on Monday, February 19.

Please see our full press release to read more about Julie’s legacy and our transition process.

Sincerely,
Ana Hoffman and Joseph Nelson,
AFN Board of Directors Co-chairs
