Anchorage, AK – At today’s Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) board of directors meeting, AFN was honored to welcome back the Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) and the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (T&H) as members. Their return strengthens our united efforts to advocate for the rights and needs of Alaska Native communities. With their valuable perspectives and leadership, TCC and T&H will help advance our shared goals of self-determination, cultural preservation, and progress for future generations.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Tanana Chiefs Conference and the Central Council for the Tlingit and Haida back into the Alaska Federation of Natives. Their return strengthens our collective voice and enhances our ability to advocate for the rights and needs of Alaska Natives,” said Benjamin Mallott, AFN President. “Together, we can continue to make impactful strides toward self-determination and unity across our communities.”
AFN is the largest statewide Native organization in Alaska. Its membership includes 178 federally recognized tribes, 154 village corporations, 9 regional corporations, and 11 regional nonprofit and tribal consortiums that contract and compact to run federal and state programs. AFN is governed by a 38-member board, which is elected by its membership at the annual convention held each October.
