AFN believes that this public comment period does not meet the adequate consultation requirements with Tribal governments as outlined by USDA’s own Tribal consultation policy. AFN’s President Ben Mallott has submitted a letter urging USDA to conduct a proper Tribal consultation to discuss the potential impacts on Tribal agriculture and related programs.
AFN encourages Tribes and Tribal organizations to submit similar letters to the USDA, urging them to hold a Tribal consultation regarding the reorganization plan. Letters should be sent to reorganization@usda.gov and brooke.rollins@usda.gov by August 26, 2025. Additionally, we recommend that all email submissions include Tribal.Relations@usda.gov in the cc field.
