AFN RELEASES AGENDA FOR 2025 CONVENTION

Anchorage, AK – The upcoming 2025 AFN Convention promises a comprehensive agenda highlighting key issues and celebrations pertinent to Alaska Native communities. The event will feature a diverse lineup of presentations, discussions, and cultural performances over three days, from October 16 to 18. 

Key highlights include the keynote address by ANTHC President/CEO Natasha Singh, remarks from Secretary Doug Burgum of the Department of the Interior and Secretary Doug Collins of the Department of Veterans Affairs, updates on the 2025 Elders and Youth Conference, and developments in Greenland’s tourism infrastructure. The convention will also emphasize the importance of public broadcasting, Indigenous partnerships in Hawai’i, and the power of collective voting to safeguard cultural and subsistence rights.

Notable sessions will feature political and community leaders, including U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, Congressman Nick Begich, as well as tribal representatives, who will discuss Native management of natural resources, language access tools, and tribal child care. Cultural demonstrations by the Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers, Tapraq and Qerrulliik Dancers, and Ainu performers will enhance the event’s cultural significance.

The convention will culminate in the adoption of the 2025 resolutions and the election of the 2025 AFN Co-Chair. The AFN Convention stands as a vital forum to unite Alaska Native peoples, advocate for sovereignty, and celebrate their resilience and rich heritage.

The 2025 Quyana Nights, held on October 16 and 17 at 7:00 p.m., will feature groups from around the state, including Kotlik, Barrow, Pt. Hope, and more! Tickets will be available online starting October 1 at www.nativefederation.org/quyana.

The AFN Banquet, which concludes the convention on Saturday, October 18. During the event, AFN will hold its third annual silent auction, with proceeds from the auction donated to the Subsistence Action Fund.
