Interior Villages

Sharon Hildebrand currently serves as the Vice President of Tanana Chiefs Conference, representing 42 Interior Alaska Tribes. She is Dene Koyukon Athabascan, a tribal member of the Nulato Village and a member of the Caribou clan, where she was raised by her grandparents Ellen and Aloysius Peters. Sharon has worked for and alongside Tribal governments, regional nonprofits, and Alaska Native corporations, ensuring that the voices of Indigenous people are heard in every room where decisions are made.

Sharon is also a lifelong learner and educator. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Alaska Southeast and a Bachelor’s degree in Alaska Native Studies with a concentration in Alaska Native law, government, and politics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies, focusing on Indigenous Leadership Paradigms within Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) — a topic deeply connected to her personal experience and dedication to justice and healing. Her doctoral work combines academic rigor with cultural insight, ensuring that Indigenous knowledge systems are honored and elevated in the field of leadership studies.

Beyond her professional life, Sharon cherishes time spent with her family, preparing traditional foods, learning from Elders, and nurturing community connections. She is a proud mother, daughter, and granddaughter — values that ground her in her work and remind her who she serves.
