2026 AFN Convention Resolutions

Delegates at the 2026 AFN Convention passed 49 resolutions including strong opposition to Census changes and unanimous support for transparency in Alaska’s elections.

On the final day of the 2026 AFN Convention, the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) delegates voted to pass 49 resolutions, including opposition to proposed changes to the 2030 decennial census and unanimous opposition to Ballot Measure 2, supporting the public disclosure laws that protect in Alaska’s elections.

“The resolutions process is an important part of how our voices are heard and our priorities move forward,” Gayla Hoseth, AFN Co-Chair, said. “Each resolution represents the commitment of our delegates to address the challenges facing our people and to protect what matters to our communities. Passing these resolutions is an important step, but the work does not end here. We must carry these priorities forward through continued advocacy, collaboration, and accountability to the people we represent.”

AFN’s resolutions process not only fosters meaningful discussions but also ensures that diverse perspectives are considered, leading to well-informed and inclusive decision-making. The resolutions passed at the AFN Convention serve as a roadmap for future actions, reflecting the collective will and vision of AFN’s members. The resolution process plays a crucial role in upholding the democratic principles and ensuring that the AFN and its members remain responsive to the needs and concerns of not only AFN members, but our people and communities.

“Every resolution we passed today becomes part of the record of what our membership has asked AFN to take on,” Ben Mallott, AFN President, said. “Our responsibility now is to turn those priorities into meaningful work—whether that means engaging with lawmakers, challenging decisions that affect our rights, or bringing the right people to the table to address issues facing our communities. These resolutions give us a clear mandate from our delegates, and we will carry that mandate into the year ahead.”
