At the 2017 AFN Convention, AFN delegates passed AFN Resolution 17-15, in support of SB 54. The Alaska Legislature is currently in special session to consider amendments to the groundbreaking criminal justice reform legislation known as SB 91. The proposed SB 54 contains some important fixes, but does not repeal SB 91.
AFN joins stakeholder and government partners to encourage the Legislature to quickly pass Senate Bill 54 and to focus on the root causes of crime. We encourage the Legislature to appropriate funds for prosecutors, troopers, VPSO’s and critical behavioral and mental health services.
AFN urges its membership along with all concerned Alaskans to call their legislator, let them know that they support the continued implementation of criminal justice reform in Alaska.
